Nicholas Fontana
hails from New Orleans, Louisiana and is a graduate of Louisiana State
University. His early teachers include Srebrenka Igrec, Gregory Sioles, and
Michael Gurt. A major point in his journey and development, Nicholas
sustained severe repetitive motion injuries in 2010 and relocated to the
Portland area in 2011 to study ergonomics from the ground up with local
pianist, composer, and teacher Lisa Marsh, Director of the Coordinate
Movement Program at Portland State University. After a successful recovery
Nicholas went on to study with Mark Westcott.
Nicholas' solo performance appearances have included House Concerts PDX,
Classical Revolution's benefit concert "Slava Ukraine", The Old Church, and
many other joint programs. His collaborative roles have included work with the
Oregon Symphony, Friends of Chamber Music, and Portland Symphonic Choir.
Nicholas has worked extensively in a collaborative role with singers, having
performed most of the standard vocal repertoire, with a focus on German
Lieder, with string players in the piano-string sonatas of Mozart, Beethoven,
and Brahms, four-hand recitals, as well as with many university choirs and
ensembles
Mr. Fontana is an active member of Oregon Music Teachers Association and
National Federation of Music Clubs. He currently resides in Bethany in
Northwest Portland, where he teaches and runs a large home studio. Nicholas
has an equal passion for guiding others on their own musical journeys and has
seen students go on to place in local festivals, pass high level proficiency
exams, and win scholarships.
